an zhang's not hocking trite ego-affirming clichés to francophonic cinephiles, cuz the old teacher who loves chalk really is an old teacher who really does love chalk, and the anchor woman with the creepy eyes really is an anchor woman with creepy eyes (they don't blink cuz they're robots), and the stupid peasant girl come down from the mountains really is a stupid peasant girl come down from the mountains.
you'd think i'd have something more insightful to say (should see the way i waste chalk in my chinese classrooms) but i don't.
